Get Out Of Your Own Way – My Book! – Part 3

You’ve done the work. You’ve taken the hard steps to heal your body and mind. Whether you’ve conquered chronic illness, taken control of your weight, or simply stopped letting your health hold you back—you’ve already created a ripple effect. That in itself is powerful.

But what comes next? This is where things get exciting. This is where you unleash your power.

Just by Healing, You’re Making an Impact

In a world where the majority of people are battling poor health, simply choosing to prioritize your wellness sets you apart. When people notice you looking brighter, moving more freely, and radiating positivity, they’ll be curious. You become a light, a trailblazer, and without even realizing it, you start inspiring those around you.

And even if you haven’t found your “thing” yet—that passion or purpose that feels uniquely yours—you’re still leaving the world better than you found it. That’s not small. That’s legacy.

Eating for Impact: Why a Plant-Focused Diet Changes More Than Your Health

One of the most profound ways you can unleash your power is through the food you choose to eat. Embracing a plant-forward or whole food, plant-based diet isn’t just good for your body—it’s one of the most environmentally impactful decisions you can make.

Let’s talk numbers:

  • 80 billion animals are slaughtered every year for food.
  • A single cow raised for beef can consume up to 12,000 pounds of feed during its life.
  • Dairy cows may consume 25,000 pounds of feed annually to produce milk—feed that could otherwise go directly to humans.

The ratio is staggering. For every 40 calories of input, only one calorie of beef is produced. Eggs? 39:1. Dairy and pork? 14:1. Meanwhile, direct consumption of grains has a ratio of 2.2:1. That means by choosing plants over animals, you’re radically reducing your demand on water, fuel, land, and resources.

Even without going fully vegan, removing yourself from the industrial food chain in any way contributes to reducing environmental harm—and that’s power.

Compassion Is a Superpower

We often equate power with toughness. But real power comes from compassion. When you extend compassion—not only to others but to yourself—you begin to see the world with greater clarity. Defensiveness drops. Judgment fades. Solutions become visible.

Farmers in Africa deter elephants from raiding crops. Instead of killing the animals, they place beehives on fences. Elephants are afraid of bees (a sting in their sensitive trunks is no joke), so they keep their distance. This simple, compassionate solution protects both the crops and the elephants.

This is what compassion can do. It helps us see beyond conflict and create harmony, not only in our environment but in our relationships and within ourselves.

When You Heal, You Become Free to Live Authentically

Living with disease, addiction, or shame often keeps us disconnected and insecure. But once healing happens, it’s like the hard outer shell begins to melt away—and what’s left is your true self. Someone with a unique voice, insight, and offering.

Authentic living makes space for real connection. When you’re no longer worried about judgment or trying to prove yourself, you’re free to collaborate, to share ideas, and to lift others up. That’s when your power starts radiating outward.

Ways to Unleash Your Unique Power

You don’t have to reinvent the world overnight. But here are a few meaningful ways you can start using your gifts, perspective, and experiences to make an impact:

1. Health and Wellness

You’ve walked the walk. Whether you pursue coaching, recipe development, fitness instruction, or join an evidence-based nutrition movement, your voice is needed. Your story will connect with someone in a way no one else’s can.

2. Sustainable Agriculture

Industrial farming and monocropping have caused widespread environmental damage. If you’re passionate about change, explore regenerative farming, support farmers transitioning away from harmful practices, or advocate for sustainable food systems.

3. Tackling the Plastic Problem

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch now spans over 620,000 square miles—largely due to plastics that don’t biodegrade. Whether through inventing alternatives, influencing policy, or supporting zero-waste brands, this is a space desperately needing innovation and leadership.

4. Revolutionizing Fashion

From harmful chemicals to massive textile waste, the fashion industry is ripe for change. Conscious clothing choices, innovation in materials, and supporting brands with true sustainability practices can all make a difference.

5. Impact Investing

Every purchase and investment is a vote for the kind of world you want. You don’t need to be a financial expert—just align your money with your values. Ask your advisor to exclude companies that conflict with your ethics. Choose funds and businesses that prioritize people and planet.

Even your 401(k) or IRA can reflect your values if you make it a priority.

Fear Will Be There—But It Doesn’t Have to Stop You

Let’s be honest: putting yourself out there is scary. Whether it’s asking a tough question, making a bold investment choice, or launching a new project—it can feel intimidating. But fear isn’t a sign you shouldn’t act. It’s a sign that you care.

So don’t judge yourself for feeling afraid. Instead, let your vision of a better world lead you. Allow that fire inside you—the one you’ve spent so long protecting and nurturing—to light the way forward.

The World Needs What Only You Can Offer

You have a perspective, a story, a skill set that’s yours alone. And whether you use it to improve your family, your community, your industry, or the planet—you are making a difference.

You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be willing. The rest will come.
